Dear Sarah:

I am here to tell you the pro­fes­sional wrestler turned movie star Dwayne The Rock Johnson is going to be president, but before that happens, we are going to make a book, to make a movie, to make a mind.

I know it's overdue, but I've set aside the third install­ment in the Gnomon J. Mar­lowe series (working title: GJM in the Secret Stacks) because our country is crum­bling into pieces and sto­ries of friendly eccentrics seem insuf­fi­cient bor­dering on offensive. When I started this series, its fic­tional reality felt lightly burnished. Now, it feels utterly false. If he lived in our world, Gnomon J. Mar­lowe with all his energy and stub­bor­ness would not be sit­ting in the Invis­ible Library decoding hieroglyphs. He would be -- well... what?
