Moonbound Poster

$7 Sold out

This is the poster I produced for Moonbound’s launch in 2024. It’s a diegetic object, straight from the streets of Rath Varia. This poster won’t be reprinted, so this is your last chance to acquire some limited-edition worldbuilding ephemera!

In Moonbound, about midway through, the beaver Agassiz is guiding Ariel de la Sauvage and Durga Darwin across the wilderness. They come to a plain where “enormous caterpillars migrated in a long, unbroken line, nose-to-tail.”

A short walk later,

They came to the procession of caterpillars. The creatures roared, the ground churning beneath their legs. Agassiz held Ariel and Durga back at a cautious distance, and even so, bits of shredded sod flew up and pelted them.

“It’s all so strange,” Durga breathed.

“Is it?” Agassiz replied. “The caterpillars are very familiar to me... but perhaps they are strange. Everything is strange, in this world. Wherever you look, strangeness blooms.”

My friend Dan Bouk, reading an early draft, was so taken with this line that he suggested it as a title. I went a different way, but his enthusiasm stuck with me, and the phrase — as succinct a summary of the novel that exists — found its way onto this poster, blooming in Riso Fluorescent Pink.

One-sided poster print on 11" × 17" Kraft-tone from French Paper in Niles, Michigan. Printed in two color passes on a Risograph SF9450 at the Murray Street Media Lab in Berkeley, California.

I think it's magical that this work can go nearly anywhere in the world with a single stamp. This shop is, in some ways, an elaborate exercise in post office appreciation.
