This was a lo-fi crowdfunding campaign for the digital edition of Annabel Scheme and the Adventure of the New Golden Gate, a novella published daily in Bay Area newspapers for two weeks in June 2020, now collected and revised for worldwide enjoyment. The campaign ran for just one week, start to finish, in July 2020.
Thanks to 1022 patrons, each purchasing the digital edition for $9, the story is now free for everyone to read.
If you are one of those patrons: I’ve posted some instructions for reading the files you received.
Following the successful conclusion of this campaign:
Patrons received the novella in EPUB, Kindle, and PDF formats, for comfortable reading on their phone, laptop, or e-reader.
I published a web edition, free for everyone to read.
I also templatized and documented the web edition’s code on GitHub for others to use and extend.
This is approximately the same model I used for the original Annabel Scheme novella: a group of patrons acquires a book for themselves and, in so doing, makes a version free, forever, for everyone. It feels good.
The main thing to do here is sign up for my email newsletter, which is infrequent and wide-ranging. It goes out to around 18,000 people, but/and I try to make it feel like a note from a friend:
